Clare's Story

Clare's Story

My name is Clare Burton. I am 41, and a stay at home mother of a three year and sixteen year old. I live in Conwy, North Wales.

I recently took my daughter to Plas Menai surgery for an appointment.

Although I am increasingly aware of research in general life I had no expectation that I or my family might be approached at the surgery about taking part in research. I saw someone else being asked to complete a questionnaire on a tablet in the waiting room and when I was approached and asked if I would take part I saw no reason why not to. I thought I had nothing to lose. The questionnaire was about the skin cancer melanoma.

Taking part in the research questionnaire made me think and prompted me to see the doctor about a mole I had, thankfully the mole was nothing to worry about. It also made me realise that research is necessary and any input however small may be of benefit to yourself or to someone else."

Clare took part in a study called 'MelaTools Q study'. The study was receiving support from The North Wales School of Primary Care Research and NISCHR CRC Workforce.

She was recruited at Plas Menai surgery in Llanfairfechan, one of many surgeries across Wales participating in the NISCHR Primary Care Research Incentive Scheme (PiCRIS).
