Amanda's Story

Penarth mother, Amanda Squire, a health sciences lecturer whose daughter almost died of meningitis has joined HealthWise Wales to fight against major diseases. Amanda had a terrifying experience when her daughter, Mimi, was admitted to hospital with meningococcal septicaemia 16 years ago.

Mimi, then aged two, was rushed into intensive care with the life threatening illness. "Thankfully Mimi made a full recovery, but nearly losing my daughter made me realise how precious life is, and how important it is for us to look after ourselves", she said. "There are so many health challenges at the moment, and as a mother I worry about what the future holds for my children, and their children. This is why I've signed up to HealthWise Wales and I would encourage others to do so too".
