Run for the health of the nation

Run for the health of the nation

PLEASE NOTE THIS COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED.

Missed out on a place for the Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon? Don't put away your trainers just yet, you could win your way to the start line and help future-proof health services for your loved ones at the same time.

HealthWise Wales and Run 4 Wales have joined forces to offer 10 pairs of tickets at the sold-out Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon by asking members of the public to sign up to HealthWise Wales to help shape the future of the NHS in Wales.

The competition, launched today, is encouraging members of the public to sign up through a unique URL to the largest health research survey in Wales. Those who sign up will be entered into a draw to win a spot for them and a running buddy in the largest mass participation event in Wales.

Formed in February 2016, HealthWise Wales is a confidential research study which aims to better understand the health and wellbeing of the nation. After signing up, individuals will be given the opportunity to complete questionnaires on varying topics every six months.

The information gathered from people across Wales will be used to develop better treatments and improve care patients receive through the NHS.

Wales currently faces many health challenges and with an ageing population, one in three adults say a health problem affects their day-to-day activities. Whether an individual is fit and healthy, suffering from an illness, a smoker or a non-smoker, everyone over 16 is encouraged to sign up to paint a better picture of the nation's health. In doing so, people will be helping to ensure their children, and grand-children will receive the best possible healthcare.

Dr Frank Atherton, Chief Medical Officer for Wales, said: "People run for all sorts of reasons, to improve their health or to raise awareness and money for charities. We want to let people know that they can also make a difference by signing up online and participating in the HealthWise Wales research study."

"The more people who get involved, the more powerful and insightful the results will be to help improve health and social care services for their families and loved ones in the future, so I encourage everybody across Wales to sign-up."

Run 4 Wales Chief Executive, Matt Newman, said: "One of the key values of Run 4 Wales and the Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon is to help people across Wales discover healthier lifestyles. The HealthWise Wales research study is another fantastic initiative that will help improve the wellbeing of the nation, so we're right behind this competition and a brighter future for healthcare in Wales."

To be in with a chance of winning one of ten pairs of Cardiff Half Marathon spots, sign up to HealthWise Wales through this link only: https://www.healthwisewales.gov.wales/cardiff-half before 11:59pm on 3 September 2018.
